Leading the way: the power of women in the SFR industry

The untapped potential for women in the single-family rental (SFR) industry is substantial. ServiceLink’s Amy Daniel, senior vice president, title and close, shares more insight in part two of our spotlight on women in the industry from her vantage point as a leader as a service provider in the space.

The single-family rental and real estate investing industry has made strides in recent years, in terms of women entering the space. A 2024 study showed that women are less confident in their investing knowledge and know-how, however they tend to slightly outperform their male counterparts in returns on investment. We sat down with Amy Daniel, who leads ServiceLink’s SFR title and close team for more on what she’s seeing in the space.

Q: As a woman and leader in the SFR space, how have you seen the industry change over the last few years?

A: I've seen a lot of changes over the last couple of years. We have a lot more interest and women in attendance at SFR industry conferences and events. We are also seeing representation improve, as women increasingly serve as panelists and thought leaders at these conferences. A lot of excitement from younger generations of women is entering the industry, and that will lead to continued transformation for the space.

Q: Are you seeing more women investors and service providers?

Yes, both: women are thriving in both the investment and the service provider spaces. Newer entrants in our field are vital for business success. The best and brightest are bringing new ideas for solving problems, optimizing process, and adopting technology. We also see professionals who are transferring years of experience (i.e., legal) to bring fresh ideas to this industry.

Q: What are the challenges women in the SFR industry face?

I would say in the SFR industry, overall, the biggest challenge that women face is that it's a male dominated space but there are a lot of great things happening within the industry for everyone, including intentional allyship with our male counterparts. There are committees within trade and industry organizations for women, and within those, we see men attending those meetings to show their support to the women in this space.

Q: How have you cultivated and fostered relationships with your team, to model inclusivity?

A: My leadership approach is focused on creating space for everyone, recognizing differences, and striving for innovation through teamwork. I work to stay authentic and work in a hands-on manner --- really listening to what they have to say, supporting and sponsoring those ideas and building those relationships from a place of honesty and truth.

Q: What advice would you give someone starting out in the SFR industry?

A: Ask questions. If you're just starting out in the industry, don't be afraid to ask questions. It’s the best way to get to know people and processes. I think a lot of times, especially as women, we lack the confidence to ask those questions because it might appear like we don't know what's going on or we don't know what we're doing, but this is the best way and easiest way to learn anything new.

Q: How can ServiceLink’s team of experts help investors meet their goals?

A: ServiceLink is here to help you as an investor meet your goals through our team of experts.
